The color in the photo is a bit lighter, brighter than the actual kettle which is a darker blue. The handle is smooth and comfortable but not heat-resistant (which the accompanying paperwork states and suggests using something like a potholder when handling it). The whistle can be heard from a couple rooms away so you don't have to babysit it.

I read the other person's review in which she mentioned rusting in the first week or so of use. I have had this kettle for over a month now and I use it often and it has not rusted, HOWEVER, I follow the directions it came with which clearly state to empty it completely every time you're done with it or it could rust. So, just make sure you don't leave water sitting in it when you're not planning on using it and it should be fine.

Kettle looks good, but inside quality is not good. First time I boiled water in it rust spot came out in it kettle cover. I used this kettle for 10 days after kettle enamble is taking out. I was looking for a stylish kettle with a loud whistle because I can be pretty absent-minded. I like the look and shape of this kettle. It comes in a nice soft green. Unfortunately, the whistle does not work consistently and it's not real loud when it does work. I'm not sure if there's some trick to it, but I'm not looking for a teakettle to be tricky, just need it to work simply and reliably. Also, the handle and lid are heat resistant, as advertised, but heat resistant does not mean heat proof. When I first got it, I boiled 3 full pots of water in a row and by the third pot, the handle was pretty hot. I am returning this for safety reasons--don't need to risk burning the house down.

The kettle is beautiful, however, if the lid is not on snugly the whistle does not whistle. When that happens, the plastic whistle armature melts and deforms, game over. I am ordering a kettle with either an all metal whistle or no lid now.

Ok.. This is a fun kettle. It boils fine, whistles nicely... however the metal guard under the bottom of the handle will melt the plastic handle if it gets too hot. If you have a gas stove... it is not a good choice. Secondly, after a year... the spigot was rusting from the inside. The tea kettle has rust spots at the welds and stain marks down the inside of the kettle. I just wonder how long I have been drinking that. I would not buy this brand again. 1 Year is a very very short lifespan for a kettle. Not worth the bucks.

I received this teakettle as a gift, and unfortunately, was very disappointed in the quality. Buyers should be aware of the small size --this teakettle only holds 5 cups of water --while this is a nice size for quickly boiling water for a couple of cups of tea, that's about where it's usefulness ends. The small size also causes problems when attempting to clean/dry out the teakettle --it is impossible to get more than 2 fingers inside, and therefore, if you want to allow the inside to dry, you must turn the teakettle upside down. However, because of the shape, no matter what you do -turning, rotating, leaning it to the left, then to the right, it is impossible to ever completely dry the inside. After the first use, the inside of this teakettle began to flake and cause black "floaties" so to speak in the water -apparently, the copper bottom doesn't enjoy being wet all the time - and since you cannot dry it, you're pretty much at a loss. I wanted to like this teakettle, but I'm not able to recommend it to anyone.

I bought this as a replacement for the same one that I left on the stove and burnt its bottom. I love this teapot, except that you have to pull the whistle part off by hand in order to pour the water. Copco makes a "Touch and Pour" tea kettle that is a wonderful design, but they only make it in the 5 quart, which was larger than what I need or want. So, get this pot if you want a cute and durable kettle and don't mind pulling off the whistle piece.

I have had this tea kettle for 3.5 years and I have really liked it except for 2 reasons: 1) the whistle never worked and 2) the interior is coming off so that every time I scrub it or boil water in it, dark brownish-black water with a nasty chemical flavor comes out. While drinking tea recently, I noticed my tea looked really dark and had a really bad flavor. I tried scrubbing the kettle and tons of black-colored water comes out while I scrub. I thought If I cleaned it well enough this wouldn't be a problem but it just keeps getting worse. It was a great tea pot but now I can't use it anymore!

I got this teakettle for my mother for Christmas and she loved it! It is adorable and the whistle sound is hilarious. It does not sound like your average teapot whistle, but more like a harmonica. If you want a beautiful sounding whistle on your teapot look elsewhere, but if you want something that will catch your attention this is the pot for you!

Ditto to the other reviews of this kettle. I got mine as a gift (asked for a whistling tea kettle for christmas).

The thing didn't whistle and I need that to remind me I put something on the stove. (Who wants to watch water boil?) So I returned it and got another Porto kettle. Same thing. No whistle.

Frankly, this item is crap. There's no point in a kettle that doesn't whistle. You might as well just boil the water for tea in a saucepan, which we have plenty of.

I agree with the review from 2003. I also purchased mine at a store and after the first use was extremely disappointed. I loved the size as most teakettles tend to be too large. The stainless steel is wonderful and the I liked the lever on the whistle.

Sadly, the whistle is barely audible. Actually, the sound can hardly be interpreted as a whistle. It sounds like steam escaping from something, not the whistling sounds that teakettles normally make. You must stay in the kitchen to wait for the water to come to a boil, plus there is some steam seepage from the lid when it's boiling. I would never purchase it again.

I was very happy with my purchase of a Porto Kettle last night.

Excited about my first cup of healthy tea I rinsed out the kettle in the dim light of my night lit kitchen and brewed my tea.

Imagine my horror when I discovered this morning that not only had I been brewing my green tea but also the probably toxic inks of the warranty notes that some MORON had placed INSIDE of the tea kettle!!!!

What the hell?????

Make sure to look inside the kettle before use!

On the positive side: the kettle is nice and small for one person, and heats the water quickly. I don't have enough experience with it to find out if it will have the problems the other review is talking about.

We purchased this at a store, after looking at all the stainless tea kettles, to replace an old Revere Wear whistling tea kettle. Problems we noticed right away: The whistle is not loud enough to be heard from another room, plus the lid fits so tightly that it has to be pried out with a knife, and water boils out around the handle of the lid. Although we washed it every day and refilled it with bottled water, within three months, the bottom of the inside was pitted and rusting! If someone wants a good looking inexpensive tea kettle to use once in a while and then dry out after each use, then this may work.

I have two of these kettles- one for a vacation home. The first one is TEN years old and still going strong; and the other was nine years old- but lost on moving day. I am getting my third one today. I have to disagree totally with some of the other reviews. My kettle is in constant use and has never rusted. The cover fits quite snugly and I have never gotten a steam burn as with those with loose or ill-fitting covers. Yes, I do use a lightweight oven mitt on occassion, if I am boiling a full pot. People- we are BOILING water here!! The handle has never burned, melted or got so hot that you could smell that awful toxic burning odor that some pot handles give off. This kettle is a workhorse in my home. On one occassion, a guest accidentally left this kettle on in my vacation home. It was on for FIVE days!!! Thankfully, it was on a low flame and by the grace of God, there was no fire. This kettle remarkably withstood this five days of burning gas heat and was still perfectly usable with all parts in working order and no melt damage. Yes, you do have to give it a good steel wool once over to keep it looking nice, but I don't mind. It's the most-used item in our house. If your tea kettle is just for show, or rare use- buy a glitzy expensive pot; but if you're a tea lover who wants a no-nonsense tea kettle- this one is for you. Safe, durable, reliable and - it's my favorite piece of kitchen equipment.

I don't usually leave reviews but thought I should this time... I've been using the same kettle in pink for a while and it became clear that this kettle was such a waste of money.

About a month after, the color started fade and a hook to open the whistling lid snapped in half. Although it still boil water and whistle, the handle gets extremely hot to grab and you'd hope to use a pan instead. Oh and the other day, the handle for lid snapped in half as it couldn't take heat any more.

There's nothing heat-resistant about this kettle. I'd strongly recommend to purchase another kettle instead.

I bought this tea kettle to replace my old avocado green one when we redid the kitchen. It looked stylish, and I liked the fact that the whistle couldn't be removed. In these two respects, it it good.

Here are the problems.

The metal on this kettle is thin, which makes it very loud while heating up. The kettle rumbles loudly and sounds like the water is at an angry, roaring boil when it isn't even lukewarm yet, and the noise persists and just gets louder. It can be heard in the living room, even after just a few seconds on the stove.

The handle on this tea kettle gets very, very hot and can't be picked up without a pot holder unless you wait for it to cool down, which isn't ideal.

I've had mine for several months. It looks really nice and blends into my stove area quite well. However, like what others have reported it suffers from many design flaws. I'm sad to report another flaw: the lid comes apart.

The lid is made up of two pieces. On closer inspection of the lid I found it's not held together by rivets, weld, or even screws-----it's just held together by bent metal. Really?! Didn't they know the lid is the most used part of a teakettle since one has to remove it to add water?! Especially in this model since one can't pour water through the spout since it has a metal ball in the spout to make the kettle whistle.

Seriously---it's just a teakettle for cryin' out load! How can one manage to mess it up? Teakettles are meant to last decades---not months. I hope not they didn't make too many of these----since most will probably be discarded. I never knew a teakettle would have a large carbon footprint.

I have to say that the kettle is stylish and fairly well made. We had no problems with the lid, which secures well, does not get stuck and the incorporated whistle works well.

The spout is angled a bit too steeply, so pouring is a bit straining on the wrist. Water comes out a bit slowly and tilting further will just cause for some drops to escape from the lid.

The biggest gripe is with the metal screen that holds the ball in the spout. The ball seals the spout when boiling so that the steam can be forced through the lid to make the kettle whistle. When the kettle is tilted to pour, the ball comes out to let the water through and is held from falling in your cup by a metal screen. This screen is not made of stainless steel and within a few months it started rusting quite badly.

Now the metal screen is so badly rusted that I think that the screen will soon fail... cleaning with CLR or similar will work at first, but the problem comes back worse and worse.

...if they would have only chosen a better material for that screen!

Advertised everywhere as enamel on steel (and also as "lightweight aluminum" this kettle is worth about what they're asking. Not a bargain - it's extremely lightweight aluminum; the word cheesy comes to mind. The one I got didn't say Copco anywhere - the brand was "Rowoco." Amazon refunded my money, and kudos to Amazon for that.

It Does what it is supposed to do, Boils water. Plus It has a great whistle and is just adorable to look at which is why I gave it 4 stars. Problem is that it chips inside and out pretty easily, mine is a only couple weeks old and already has 3 or 4 chips, one inside on the bottom that happened near immediately, so you know with that chip it will rust eventually (How does a person chip something with water???) mine could have been defective, I did not want to bother shipping it back. If you just want to collect, it is an adorable one!

Not only the cutest darn tea kettle you will ever find, it is the best one I have owned! It was gift from my loving boyfriend and I was so charmed by it (and him!) but wondered if it would work as good as it looked. YES IT DOES!

It heats up very quickly with the wide bottom and the whistle is like a strong wind - loud enough to let you know immediatly when your water is hot, but not peircing or shrill like some that make your hair curl. It is a breeze to clean if stove messes occur, you just wipe it with a damp cloth. The handle stays much cooler than others I have tried and the spout is at a great angle with very helpful flip-switch for one hand pouring. A real gem.

Did I mention it is cute as can be? It looks like it was forged out of the fevered dreams of Hello Kitty and Minnie Mouse. I imagine it would delight children too.

This is just too ADORABLE!! I bought this for a gift, & I liked it so much I bought a second one for myself! My 3 boys, ages 8, 11, & 13, wanted to keep the first & give the second one away as a gift, as they did not want to give it away at all, for fear of it not being available again (we've experienced that pitfall on Amazon before) ! Then lo & behold, the second one came in damaged, (boy were they upset! They said, see.....we told you to keep the other one!) but Amazon promptly replaced it, they sent the replacement out immediatly & credited my account when the damaged one arrived back to them! Kudos to Amazon!!XOXOX IF YOU WANT A GREAT VALENTINES GIFT, DON'T WAIT AS THIS BABY WILL MOST LIKELY NOT BE AVAILABLE THEN! Get it NOW!!

I have a kitchenaid teakettle also & am hard pressed to say which one I prefer......but I do think I tend to favor this one, the handle stays a bit cooler & you can grab it more from the side to pour the last bits of water out easier than with the Kitchenaid kettle!

Some months ago, the whistle (small black cover for spout) broke in spite of careful use. I called a customer service number which at this time I am no longer able to reach. (1 888 203 8462) and was sent without charge a new item. This too has proven inferior and I now do not know how to reach the customer service department at COPCO. This kettle is the perfect size for us and has a nice brushed finish. HOWEVER, the whistle is junk. It crumbled to pieces within a month of buying it new. The seller gave me a new one from another kettle, and that one crumbled to pieces in an even shorter period of time. I'm trying to find a way to contact the manufacturer. Would like to replace this 1-1/4" whistle with one that actually works.

This is a nice stylish stainless steel teakettle. The only thing I am not pleased with is the plug for the spout that creates the whistle affect. It is very hard to pull on and off...especially when it's piping hot. Maybe in time it will get easier.

It looks terrific, but if you plan to use it regularly, be prepared for the inside coating to eventually flake off and add crunchies to your serving. I cannot believe I am buying another (my third, threw out the first two for the flaking problem) but it does look terrific in our kitchen, and My Sweetheart indulges me in plenty of ways that don't make good cents (sic) either.

I've been looking for about a month, to replace my 20 year old kettle. I've searched MANY retail stores, ebay, and other web offers. When I saw and read about this one, I was very impressed, but waited to see and use it in person, before making a true judgement. I've had it for a few weeks now, and I absolutely love it!!! It's very well built, very comfortable to handle, heats quickly, the handle is comfortable to use, and the top easily comes off, for cleaning. It's just a VERY well made, quality teakettle. I completely recommend this item to anyone who's looking for a kettle, that is built to be around for a very long time, and look beautiful at the same time. Can't beat the price either, for what you're getting!!!

This is a lovely kettle with a nice design. The main problem with the kettle is if you use unfiltered tap water, the boiled water tastes like metal. You can't make tea without using filtered water. Had I known this fact, I would not have purchased this kettle.

A teakettle is a fairly basic product, but there are a wide range of designs available, some better than others. This one has a basically intelligent design, but has a slight flaw. The positives: it is well made, feels solid, has a good grip on the handle, and has an innovative stopper mechanism. When the kettle is lifted, the articulated handle lifts the stopper for pouring. When the kettle is set down, the reverse happens and the stopper closes. So far, so good. The only problem is that when the water is boiling, steam rises, blows out through the whistle on the stopper and condenses on the outside of the stopper. If the kettle is lifted quickly, drops of hot water can spatter and hit the lifting hand. It's not a serious problem, but one has to be careful. Other than that we are satisfied with this product.

Sound is different from most kettles which is a plus. Spout opens easily by picking the teakettle up and does not leak when boiling. However, if water is left in the kettle after use it does take on a chemical taste, but seems to be going away after using the product everyday for about a month now. Otherwise, my girlfriend was very happy with her gift.

Bought this tea kettle as I wanted one that had an automatic opening spout. This in fact has an excellent handle design that opens the spout when you pick it up and makes it easy to fill the kettle with water thru the spout. However, the kettle doesn't always whistle and when it did, it sounded like a loud screeching horn and sputtered water from the spout and the lid when it boiled. I also found the kettle a bit on the large size (though most these days seem to be) for my personal use. Rather I have returned this for the Oxo Downpour tea kettle which I found somewhat better - a nice, consistant whistle though it also sputters a little bit of water from the spout and a slightly smaller size to my liking.

I thought this tea kettle would look great in my kitchen, which it did. However I didn't count on it falling apart! Within having it a couple months (generally being heated no more than twice a day)the whistling spout MELTED off. A major fire hazard and then, no more whistle. Also the handle got very hot on this forcing you to use a potholder. Where is it now? In a landfill. Very disappointing purchase and a waste of money.

This stainless steel teakettle is a beauty. It looks elegant no matter which angle you look at it. The quality and craftmanship is high and really shows on the shiny finish. The large opening makes it really easy to add water and not to say that it allows you to stick your hand inside for cleaning. The whistling sound when water boils is also music to the ears. However, its "stay-cool handle" does not actually stay cool. It gets quite warm when water boils. However this does not reduce my enthusiasm for this teakettle. You always want to be careful around a hot kettle anyways. My verdict for this product: This stylish kettle ROCKS.

I liked how this teakettle looked. It did take a little while to figure out how to flip up the whistling cap and keep it up. (As a side note, the whistle is very soft until it's almost ready to boil over). My problem is that the enamel on the bottom is chipping horribly and worsens every time I use it. So, I'm in the market for a new kettle already.

I see other people have gotten this and thought it was broken. I thought mine was, too, but I think it's actually just really poorly made. The button on the top flips the whistle-part up, but you have to manually flip it back down by pressing on that whistle part. Sometimes when you flip it down, it snaps back into place, but sometimes it doesn't go back all the way. I tried to force it down, but it just pops back up again, and the whistle doesn't work with it open like that. I looked at it, and nothing appeared broken. I gave up and returned it.

I thought this kettle was so cute, I ordered it and couldn't wait to have it in my kitchen! When it came, I hand washed it and tried it out. Worked great, and I loved the harmonic whistle. I never left water in it, and washed it by hand every so often. The enamel started to chip off, and the steel started to rust. Very disappointed that I cannot use it for human consumption, now it just boils water to put in my steam cleaner until I buy a new one. I'm going for stainless inside this time, no enamel!

I bought this for my sister, because she asked for a whistling tea kettle, and I thought it looked darling. I give it 5 stars for appearance, but it never whistled. If you're near the kitchen, you'll probably know when its boiling from the little rattling sound and the gush of steam, so it's not a total loss. If you're ok without the whistle, it's very cute!

It's too expensive, really, but we got it for the novelty. It does the job. We received one that did not whistle, but the company sent a replacement whistle for no charge and no questions asked. I was glad to see that, but it also made me think that this is not an uncommon problem. Take my advice and get something cheaper.

I have had this teakettle for about 3 years. I bought it because it was cute. My family drinks a lot of tea, and it's important to have a good kettle. I also wanted a whistle because I usually like to do other things while the water's boiling for my tea.

For the money I spent on this one, I expected to get not only a cute kettle, but one that would stand up to use. I was disappointed. The green parts are all burnable plastic. What a dumb thing to make a teakettle out of!

Of course my whistle is now melted and broken. The handle is partially burned and believe me when it gets heated it smells TERRIBLE. Isn't plastic toxic? Now I know why good teakettles have all metal or enamel parts.

At any rate, this kettle DOES have instructions warning the user not to get the plastic parts too close to heat. But guess what, it's a kettle, and it will be used on a stove. I am apparently not careful enough to keep a kettle away from heat because I destroyed mine.

I also have a gas stove, and I had to be veeery careful to move the handle all way to the right side to avoid inhaling loads of toxic-smelling burning plastic! If you are a person who needs a serious kettle, and does not have time to babysit yours (hey, that's why I got a whistle), then I suggest you skip this one.

It's cute, but I suggest buying a heavier kettle with all enamel and/or metal parts. I am now in the market for a new kettle. Yes, I know I had 3 good years, but a teakettle should last for longer than that!

Not impressed at all, I have had this tea kettle for less than a year and it has not stood the test of time. Inside of the kettle corroded easily and the outside did not retain the stainless finish. It tarnished and changed color as well. Overall not impressed with the quality of this Copco product and will not buy another in the future.

The stainless-steel teakettle reminds me of a sweet, older neighborhood friend, of whom I used to visit many moons ago. I came to cheer her up during her time of recuperation from an accident in her home, and she readily welcomed visitors. She had told me more stories than I told her! Periodically, she would walk slowly into her kitchen and remove her tea-kettle from atop her stove which was over a low flame. She poured out hot water from it into a cup. Sometimes she would drink the hot water plain after it had cooled sufficiently, and other times, she would add a tea bag to the cup of hot water and added some cold water so that she could drink it right away. At times, she would just add some hot water to the remaining tea, which she would drink slowly. Her teakettle was special to her, as it helped her to have her cup of water or tea whenever she felt the need. I had admired the structure of this tea-kettle, but unfortunately, I could not locate one of my own to purchase, at that time, which was before the Internet was "born" into our society. However, very recently, via Amazon.com, I finally found the tea kettle I have always wanted! Thank you for this wonderful stainless steel tea-kettle, which serves my own needs very well! It is easy to wash out, fill and pour out from its long spout, and remains new-looking. Though I do miss hearing a whistle when the water is boiling, like my previous teapot had, but for nostalgia's sake, I could manage without it. I do, however, hear the water boiling in my new tea kettle when I am in the kitchen. I usually set up a timer when I guess the water will be boiled, so that I don't have to stay near it to wait for this water-boiling sound. All in all, I am happy to own this teakettle which I have always wanted, plus "the price was just right!" Added info: My teapot still "acts" like it is brand new, though I have used it almost everyday since. What truly bothers me, is that since I wrote my long review almost five months ago, the price of this copco tea kettle has risen more than double (by Amazon!) Why did this happen? I was considering buying a few of these tea kettles as presents, but now it is too exorbitant in price for me to do this.

The same thing happened to me as happened to Diane Cody of Texas, only mine was an orangish yellow Garfield Teakettle, which had a huge black bare spot where paint was totally missing by base of the handle. Although it was darling, I, like Diane, didn't risk having it replaced after sending it back; shipping costs and inconvenience not worth it! So what's with the Yellow Teakettles I wonder?!

I have bought a Martha Stewart kettle, it is exactly like this one. The sole exceptions are; the knob has Martha Stewart impressed on it and the colors. Of course the price for the Copco is less. I also have the Copco Bristol.

As luck and dumb would have it I burned both kettles!

My issues with both kettles are the same. If you burn the kettle, the handle will come away from the kettle proper. The handle at the base is imbedded in plastic. If you overheat the kettle a dangerous situation is created. There are tangs that protrude from the kettle. The handle is attached to the tangs. They are covered by plastic where they are joined.

I liked the look of this kettle.I used it 4 times when I noticed my tea had a very bad taste.I did what was recomended useing baking soda and lemon boiling that with water for 15 min.it did not help at all.I tried it again nothing it was still bad tasting water.I called the company the did replace the tea kettle with a very cheap new kettle.I am very unhappy about this situation.I am sending the kettle back now and am getting a refund.

I have used this kettle 1-2 times a day almost every day for the past 12 months. I fill it with tap water that is relatively hard water and put it on a gas stove at a setting less than high.

Today, the whistle popped out easily and unexpectedly. I was inspecting the trigger and whistle to determine why the whistle was not always opening wide enough to pour water without making a slight mess. I am not sure exactly what I did, but the next thing I knew the whistle was in the palm of my hand. I think this is due to the plastic ring that holds the whistle in place. It looks like the ring has expanded over time allowing the whistle to sit somewhat loosely . I also see the ring looks like it has melted a little in front. The plastic was not broken, so I popped the whistle back into the ring and it works. However, my guess is that the ring will eventually be unable to keep the whistle in place. Even if it does, I still have the issue of the whistle sometimes not opening wide enough to pour water without making a slight mess.

What I like about this kettle:

- It boils water :)

- The whistle has always worked well.

- Hard water has had no effect on it so far.

- Its design is clean and simple.

What I do not like:

- The two problems already mentioned.

- The kettle now has a tiny amount of rust on the outside where the lid attaches (but no rust on the inside).

I give it three stars because it really has worked well for the past year.

We have had our Copco teakettle for about a year, and overall it works pretty well. The workmanship is solid, and the whistle works well. Unlike a more expensive Oxo Uplift kettle we had, the enamel has held up and there is no sign of rust on the inside. Contrary to what another reviewer found, we are not able to pick up our teakettle without using an oven mitt. We use a gas range at home, which may lead to our problems. Overall we like the product, and will bring it to our vacation home to try with our electric range once we replace it with a new teakettle.

I read a lot of kettle reviews - never thought buying a tea kettle would be so complicated - so here's the result. This kettle meets many of the concerns expressed by buyers. 1 - it has No Bottom Seam. Thats a critical flaw in a lot of kettles. 2. it has a useful filling lid. 3. it has a whistle that can be heard. No funny low whooing or internal reeds to mess with. 4. it is made of sturdy metal. 5. it has a handle that works. 6. its good looking. 7. it holds 2 quarts. I bought this because of these attributes and I think its the best buy of all those featured when I got it. I did learn to turn down the heat so as not to heat the handle rather than the water. Watch the side of your kettle. If its steaming, high flame is shooting up past the bottom and reaching the handle above. This does not do the kettle any good. If this one is left to whistle away, a little steam blasts up into the handle and heats it on the front. This is a leak and not perfect but its not critical. The handle cools very quickly. I would like to see more than one screw holding the handle on but the unit seems very sturdy. I just wanted a kettle. I got a research project but it was worth it and I'm pleased with the purchase.

After two months of using it just once a day, the handle to the lid broke off. I have to say that the handle felt loose right out of the box so it was only a matter of time. I guess I got a defective one. This is just my preference but I don't like the fact that I can't keep the lid to the spout opened. You have to hold the handle to keep it opened. Maybe I'm being picky but almost every other model of tea kettles allow it to stay open.

I just bought a Copco Vitara kettle at my local second-hand store for $1.

Like everyone else says, this one has a broken (missing) whistle/spout.

I thought I might try to order a replacement part from Copco, but after reading that this is a common problem, I will just use my "new" kettle as is. I find whistles annoying anyhow.

It's a fine deal for me, but I'm glad I didn't buy it new.

This is my second one of these and the handle on this one broke after 15 months. On the first one, the plastic ring that holds the whils together broke within a year.

Shame because I love the look and feel and function of this tea kettle but function doesnt mean anything if it doesn't function.

But I have just spent 2 hours goign trhough every tea kettle that Amazon and others offer. I am going to try Copco's one touch. I think I have had it before a few years back and was very happy with it. Unfortunately, Amazon does not carry it in black, so I have to look elsewhere.

my teapot broke probably 6 months after i bought it at crate and barrel. I was really disappointed- the piece that holds the metal whistle closed (at the spout) is plastic and has totally fallen apart- and we have to manually open and close it with a hotpad. don't buy this product!

the only thing good about it is it looks nice on my stove and we can still boil water.

I purchased this tea kettle about 6 months ago. After only 6 months, the exterior finish looks HORRIBLE! It looks like it is rusting on the outside. In addition, when it boils and I pour my water into my teacup, the water pops on the way out of the spout all over my counter. It also gets too hot to touch without a hot pad holder.

When I bought this tea kettle, I was looking for something inexpensive and nice looking, what I got was a cheap piece of junk. On a positive note, the whistle works well.

I really liked the design of this kettle. I wanted one that whistles and had an easy to use handle for opening (I don't like the ones that open on their own when tilted). Unfortunately, a plastic piece on the spout broke within two weeks of purchase. I can't find any warranty information on the Copco website, but I'm going to call the place I bought it to find out if I can exchange or get store credit because of the short time frame. I'm not sure if it was just a defective item or if all of them are subject to break so quickly.

We received our teakettle and it is very nice in appearance, my wife put it to work that same evening, and just like it states one achieving its hot point the whistle starts. We found no issues with a hot handle, dripping, or any flaws.

We dry out the pot after each use and it looks great sitting on the oven and it that makes the wife happy, well then its a good purchase.

We reviewed many teakettles before making our decision from $25-$200 and we feel this was the one that filled our need.

Okay, so it seems well made and well balanced, but my big issue (and the reason it's going back) is that unlike many kettles I've seen, the whistle does not stay open. You have to push with your thumb against a fairly beefy spring to keep it open, or the whistle will snap down on the spout, causing a possible splash problem. This also makes it difficult when quick-filling through the spout, and hand fatigue could ensue. Arthritis suffers beware.

The thing I like best about this teakettle is its size -- there are only 2 of us, and it makes enough water for 2 large cups of tea; we don't need anything bigger than that. Plus it is cute. It's true what the other reviewers said about it being made of thin metal, but what would one expect for this low price? It boils water, and that's all I care about. I have had this kettle for a good 5 years now, and it is still in good condition. I just ordered another for my mother-in-law.

I received this kettle yesterday and I was immediately struck by how thin the metal is compared to other kettles I've owned/used. It almost feels like it was made for camping. Whether you consider this to be a good thing or a bad thing is down to the individual. It is very, very light, which makes it ideal for older people, but I have no idea how durable it will be. If it breaks I'll be sure to write another review though!

The whistle is pretty quiet. It is certainly not piercing like some whistles. I can hear it in another room with the door to the kitchen open, but I suspect the whistle wouldn't make it through a door. Again, this is good for me as I have a roommate, but if you want to hear it from the other side of your house this kettle isn't for you.

The handle stays cool and it pours well, so no problems there.

Size wise, it just (and I mean JUST!) covers the smallest ring on my electric stove top.

In summary, this is a decent, light, very cheap kettle that would be ideal for camping.

I have a particular (perhaps, some may say, somewhat sick) affinity for inexpensive tea kettles. My stars wound up in alignment recently when I found this exact model at a local flea market in brand-new condition.

I like that the handle folds down, so there's one star. It's well made, so that's another star. It's inexpensive (very much so in my instance), so there are three stars. And you can bring a full pot to the boil and pour off several cups without burning your fingers - therefore, four stars.

I'm taking off one star as the whistle is weak; however, it sounds off loud enough to get one's attention that 'tea time' has arrived. Overall I'm pleased with this product - one of the better bargains in today's confused cornucopia of cheap import kitchen accessories.

I wish I had read these reviews before we bought this little tea kettle.

As we took it out of its box we discovered that the handle of the 1st one we bought was split in half so we exchanged it for another. Too bad we didn't see that broken handle as an omen that this was a product of very poor quality. We've owned this yes, cute and tiny, kettle for less than 6 weeks and in this brief time the whistle has broken; the exterior has discolored to an odd copper color that no soap or scrubbing can remove; and worst of all, the plastic casing around the spout cover that contains the whistle has simply melted off -- every time it's used little black bits of plastic melt into a dribble down the side of the kettle and into the stove burner.

Hate to be harsh but this is a piece of junk. The only good from it is that it reminded us that it always pays to get quality. And this isn't.

I used this tea kettle for just over a month before I had to throw it out. The reason is that it started to develop a ring of rust on the inside where the bottom meets the side. The "stainless steel" label is simply false advertising. The appearance, size, and whistling all looked great initially, but the rusting makes this an unusable product. Avoid at all cost.

Purchased this without realizing it was not a full sized tea kettle and was very surprised to find this very small tea kettle. Even though it states in the title that it is a 1-1/2 quart, it should have said small in the title for those of us who do not realize what size 1-1/2 quart means. Although, I have learned to actually like my little tea kettle since it doesn't take up so much room on my stove top and since I live alone, it is probably all I will need. I did although find this very high priced for it's size and quality and discovered afterwards that I could have purchased a full sized one at Walmart for $6.97.

I bought the kettle because I liked the copper bottom. But it always has some kind of chemical scum or film on it; when it is dry it rubs off on my fingers as an orange-colored dust. I have to scrub it everytime before I use it. Other than that it is fine, cute, functional. But I always use my other one; who wants to scrub before every cup of tea?

As noted by a previous reviewer, I also had the misfortune of having the plastic around the pour spout melt. The kettle was on the stove with plenty of water in it and was taken off the heat immediately after the whistling began, but I smelled that noxious burnt plastic smell. I finally noticed it was my tea kettle-- this happened after only 10-15 uses. I would advise strongly against buying this product.

I've owned this teakettle for more than four years. It hasn't melted (and I don't use it only on medium heat--whoops!) and it hasn't broken. I like the copper bottom. However, I can't actually boil an entire quart of water in it at once (like if I want to brew an entire pot of tea in my teapot). If I fill the kettle with more than about three cups of water, it will boil over. This means that a) it doesn't whistle--the water is where the steam should be and b) if I'm not careful, the teakettle spits boiling water at me.

I really wish I could find a small (no more than 2-quart), copper bottom teakettle to replace it, but no luck so far.

Basic small teakettle with a copper bottom. It heats up reasonably well, although the instructions say to not go above the medium setting (perhaps this is why another reviewer reported a plastic separation problem?). But even when you follow the instructions, both the handle and the spout cover get extremely hot, when it starts to boil. So you do have to handle the teapot very fussily, or you will get burned.

I like the copper bottom, and the look is not too flashy, but nice, so it's above 1 star for me. I considered 3 stars or 4, but have burned my fingers too many times. To me, a teapot is much more than the aesthetics of the kettle, it's the whole aspect of being able to grab it off the flame/element without burning one's self.

I would buy another Copco Teakettle, if I had to, but not the 'Gismo' style. It's cute but disfunctional.

Just received my new Copco Mirage Polished Stainless Steel Tea Kettle, eager to try it out. So disappointed! The instructions say "don't turn the burner higher than medium" -- on my electric stove, it takes forever to reach a weak boil at this setting. Worse, the whistle DOES NOT WORK. Even when it is boiling as much as it can, and there is a fair amount of steam coming out, the "loud whistle" is extremely faint -- it cannot be heard at all from more than one foot away from the stove - seriously!

(The "heat resistant handle" also is misleading -- the instructions actually say ALWAYS USE A POTHOLDER.)

This kettle is supposed to be Stainless Steel. So why do the instructions say that it must be carefully wiped dry inside after each use, in order to avoid rust? The full "Kettle Care" directions should be listed online with the product so that anyone considering buying this kettle knows what they are getting into.

This cute, shiny little gem (made in China) is not only SILENT, but such a delicate flower that it does not seem to be up to the stress of actually boiling any water for tea!
